6th of March 2006

Finally I decided to order my EdirolR1 recorder. This means that in the near future you will be able to hear sounds from where I am. Finally you can hear me playing when you see the pictures of a performance.

Edirol ordered and on its way

A few weeks ago I decided to order this mp3-recording instrument. I looked at it for more then a year, but all the time I was in countries where the Edirol was not available. I decided to order it via the Internet and via the “Skype-phone” as I don’t do business without talking to the company. Specially if I’m in a country like Colombia.

Internet business in the USA

First I looked for some Internet-music houses in the USA. I got a short list of five, and I thought that was more then enough. The reactions of the companies:

  • “We don’t export”
  • “We only ship to your billing-address”
  • “We are not allowed to export this product to Colombia” (it is a Japanese product)
  • “We only transport via DHL
  • “press number 1, press number 5, press number 9, press number 6, you are number 8, you are number 8…”

Not much of an entrepreneurial spirit in the USA today. Five years ago I had absolutely no problems getting a digital camera or charts to Mexico.

Lets try Europe

I tried to find a company in the Netherlands that had this Edirol for sale on the Internet without luck. But in Germany there are at least five companies.
What the heck, we have the Euro, I speak German, lets try that.

  • “We only ship to your billing-address”

Wiser at this moment, I decided to go for that and give my sister—she is my billing address—a nasty job to receive the package and to send it via FedEx to , Colombia, where I am at this moment. More logical I thought. It goes from Germany to the Netherlands and then it will end up in Colombia.

Right now it has passed my billing address and it is somewhere in the USA… What a luxury to be able to track a package. How difficult it is to get something to Colombia (and I suspect to all poor countries).

It should be here on the 15th of March, if there are no import-problems. There shouldn’t be any because it is for a boat “In Transito”, it will not be imported.

I keep you posted, hopefully with some sound the next time when I talk about .
